Do I Need A Lawyer For My ICBC Case?

Share

If you are injured in a car accident that was not your fault, it is not mandatory to hire a lawyer and you can deal with ICBC directly. However, it may be advantageous to hire a lawyer to assist with your case.

Why should I hire a lawyer?

When you are hurt in a car accident that was not your fault, ICBC will assign an adjuster to your case. An adjuster works for ICBC and tries to settle your case in an amount that ICBC thinks is fair. It is important to remember that the adjuster is working for ICBC and ICBC’s best interests  – not yours.

If you hire a lawyer, the lawyer works only for you and your best interests. The lawyer will work to settle your claim in an amount that is in your best interests. In addition, a lawyer can help ensure that you get rehabilitative treatment, such as physiotherapy, chiropractic or massage therapy sessions.

How do I pay my lawyer?

Most law firms, including Jabour Sudeyko Lucky, work on a contingency fee. What this means is you do not pay the lawyer by the hour. Instead, the lawyer’s fees are a percentage of your settlement or your trial award.

Why should I give a lawyer a percentage of my settlement?

This is a good question. You might wonder why you should give a lawyer a part of your settlement. It may even be suggested to you that you do not need a lawyer. However, in a majority of cases a lawyer will be able to settle your claim for a higher amount than ICBC offered, so even when the legal fees are deducted, you walk away with more money in your pocket.

At Jabour Sudeyko Lucky, we work closely with our clients to ensure they get treated fairly by ICBC and receive proper compensation for their injuries. Our goal is to allow you to focus on recovery and rehabilitation, and not have to worry about the stress of dealing with ICBC.
